End Time Prophecies - Daniel's 70th Week
As we discussed in Fulfilled Prophecies - Daniels First 69 Weeks, we talked about the prophecy of 70 weeks that has been decreed for the Jews and the city of Jerusalem. Of the 70 weeks that God decreed for Israel 69 weeks have been fulfilled. This means that there is one week left. This will be fulfilled at a particular time which we will discuss here.
(Daniel 9:27) And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
As with the case of the first 69 weeks the word used in this verse means a seven year period. The understanding of this verse is critical to understanding the final years before the millennial reign of our Messiah and LORD Jesus Christ When HE returns. The period starts with the signing of a treaty or covenant with Israel that is scheduled to last for seven years. Using a 360 day Biblical year this seven years is defined by Scripture as consisting of 2520 days.
The treaty will start the last seven years of this earth as we know it. During this time the wrath of God will be poured out and Scripture is quite clear as to the events that will occur during it. As stated in the verse after the treaty is signed, it is broken at the halfway point by the Antichrist when he sets up an idol and desecrates the newly built Jewish temple and proclaims himself as God. The "he" that is referenced in the verse is a reference to the previous verse of a "prince that shall come". This reference is relating to a leader of the "people who would crucify the Messiah. This of course was the Romans in 33 A.D. when Jesus Christ was crucified. So we see that a leader will arise from within what was once the Roman Empire and it is this person that is now the person in our current verse. This is the person that is referred to as the Antichrist.
According to the verse we see that the Antichrist will break the treaty in the middle of the week or 3 1/2 years or 1260 days into the treaty. At this time he will desecrate the Jewish alter and proclaim himself God as Antioch Epiphanies did in 186 BC.
